Payment method names
Why a payment method sometimes has a different name in rules than at checkout.
The name decides
The base order and rules find a payment method by its name. Part of the name is enough, and case doesn't matter: "PayPal" also matches "PayPal Express Checkout".
When checkout shows something else
Payment methods you created yourself, such as "Invoice", have the same name in rules as at checkout. Some of Shopify's payment methods have a different name in rules. Shopify doesn't publish a list of these names. Known so far, in a German-language checkout:
- At checkout "Banküberweisung" (bank transfer), in rules "Bank Deposit".
If you enter a name that's known to be called differently, the page tells you right at the field.
When a rule doesn't apply
- Check the name first. A shorter part of the name is more likely to match.
- In the test run, enter the names under "Payment methods at checkout" and see whether the rule applies.
Not too broad
A very short name matches many payment methods. That costs compute time at checkout. If the names together match a lot of payment methods, the test run warns you. Names this broad can make the calculation at checkout stop. Then all payment methods appear, including hidden ones. Longer names match more precisely.
