Uninstalling and your data
What the app stores, what it never stores, and when everything is deleted.
What the app stores
Only what syncing needs:
- the shop's address (…myshopify.com) and Shopify's access token, encrypted
- product and variant names, SKUs and the shop's locations, for matching
- inventory quantities and the log of every change the app makes
- your plan, the subscription status and the subscription's ID at Shopify
- the updates Shopify sends the app, for a short time (see "How long updates from Shopify are kept")
The server is in Germany. The full privacy policy, including the legal notice, is publicly available.
What the app doesn't store
- no data about your customers: no names, email addresses, postal addresses or phone numbers
- no orders, the app has no access to them
- no personal data about your staff, the app signs in for the shop, not for a person
- no tracking cookies, no analytics tools, no ad networks
How long updates from Shopify are kept
Shopify tells the app about every inventory change and about events such as an uninstall. The app saves each update before processing it. That way none gets lost, and none is processed twice if Shopify sends it a second time.
- The app deletes a processed update seven days after it arrived.
- An inventory update that couldn't be processed after all retries stays under "Needs your attention" for 30 days. After that the app deletes it.
- Other updates that couldn't be processed, for example an uninstall, stay until they've been dealt with.
That's why the line "Updates received from Shopify" on the Overview page counts the last seven days, not everything since installation.
Which permissions the app asks for
read_products: read products and variants, for matching by SKUwrite_inventory: read and write inventoryread_locations: read locations, for location links
That's all. Orders and customer data are outside these permissions.
What happens when you uninstall
- You uninstall the app in a store.
- The app immediately deletes that store's access token. From then on it can't read or write anything there.
- In the other stores of the group, this store may show up as "can't be reached" until the data is deleted.
- 48 hours after the uninstall, Shopify sends the request to delete all of the shop's data. The app then deletes it completely, and the store leaves the group.
The app's database is backed up every night. In these server backups, deleted data is kept for up to 14 more days and is then deleted there as well.
What happens to the other stores
When a store leaves the group, the app removes its data from the group right away: its matches, its locations in the location links, the log rows for that store, and anything still waiting to be sent to it. The other stores stay in the group.
Reinstalling
If you reinstall the app in a store where you'd uninstalled it, that store starts from scratch. This also applies if the 48 hours aren't up yet: leftovers from the earlier installation are removed first.
One exception: if the uninstall notice only reaches the app later, for example because the app couldn't be reached at that moment, and you've already reinstalled by then, the group and matches may stay. In that case you can skip the steps below.
The deletion request Shopify sends 48 hours after the uninstall doesn't hit a new installation. Before the app deletes anything, it asks Shopify whether it's currently installed in the store. If it is, the app deletes nothing and records the request as not carried out. If Shopify can't answer at that moment, the app waits and asks again.
- In the remaining store, create an invite code under "Settings" → "Stores" and enter it in the reinstalled store.
- Check the location links under "Settings" → "Locations".
- Run matching again under "Matching".
